Bernie Sanders Supports Minimum Wage Increase
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders is headed to the Cleveland area next week to headline a union-hall rally in support of a proposed ballot issue that would ask voters to hike Ohio’s minimum wage to $15 an hour if the proposal qualifies for the November ballot.
The rally is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday at United Auto Workers Local 1005, 5615 Chevrolet Blvd. in Parma. The event is organized by One Fair Wage, the official campaign group backing the amendment. A Vermont Independent who developed a national profile while running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020, Sanders has played a major role in pushing the party leftward, including bringing the $15 minimum wage into the party’s mainstream.
